What’s the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
Nowadays, the two terms are used interchangeably, but the general rule is that counselling is short-term and focuses on temporary problems such as work stress, while psychotherapy is longer term and focuses on more deeply rooted issues such as relationship patterns, emotional challenges, trauma, or specific mental health challenges such as depression/anxiety.
What is the aim of counselling/psychotherapy?
The aim of counselling/psychotherapy is to improve knowledge of who you are and what you need out of life, along with helping you build skills and tools to strengthen resilience and coping. In my practice, I use a variety of modalities including CBT, autism/ADHD-informed therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and DBT. I also use personality, attachment, and self-care instruments to help guide you along the way.
How long is a session?
Each session lasts 50 minutes.
What happens during the first session?
The first session typically takes place in person but can also be done online if that’s more convenient for you. We’ll go over some paperwork with basic details like your date of birth, health status, and emergency contacts. I will then ask you to describe why are coming to therapy and what you would like to work on. I understand that you might feel anxious or stressed about the first session and that’s completely normal. My goal is to make you feel as comfortable and supported as possible. I’m also happy to answer any questions you have about therapy and how my practice works.
What is your approach to counselling and therapy?
I am an integrative therapist and psychologist. This means that I am trained in a variety of different therapeutic approaches. My personal favourites are CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic therapy. However, my work is client-led, which means that my choice of modality will be guided by you and what you feel is working best. I like to say that I have many tools in my toolbox, so we can tailor our work to what feels most effective for you. Above all else, my work is grounded within a framework of empathy, a non-judgmental stance, and a positive regard for who you are as a person.
What types of issues do you work with?
I work with all types of issues but have a particular interest in anxiety, neurodivergence, adolescent therapy (16+), relationship issues, and burnout.
How often do I need to come to therapy?
Therapy is best done on a weekly basis at the same time each week. However, some clients may want to switch to fortnightly after they have been in therapy for a while. Many of these less frequent sessions can take place online.
Do I sit in a room with you?
Yes, I offer in person therapy in various locations in Naas. However, I also offer walk and talk therapy and online therapy. Online therapy is particularly useful for those who would like to attend therapy in the late evenings.
What is online therapy?
Online therapy is the same as in person therapy except that it is done through an online platform such as DoxyMe, Google Meet, or Zoom.
What are your opening hours?
I see clients Monday to Friday from 1pm to 9pm in various locations around Naas and online.
Do you take medical cards?
Unfortunately, I cannot take medical cards.
Is my information confidential?
Your information is kept confidential aside from during professional collegiate supervision and if there is any danger or threat to your safety or that of another person including a child.
How long will it take?
This is highly individual. The length of therapy varies for each person, depending on your goals, the challenges you're facing, and the pace at which you feel comfortable working. Some people find short-term support (around 6–8 sessions) helpful for addressing specific issues, while others benefit from longer-term therapy for deeper exploration and ongoing support.
There's no fixed timeline—what matters is that therapy progresses in a way that feels right for you.
How much does it cost?
I charge €70 for in person sessions and €65 for online sessions. I accept payment through cash, bank transfer, or Revolut.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for a minimum of 48 hours or more notice for in person sessions and 24 hours for online sessions.
Do you have a professional body and code of ethics?
I am a member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). I adhere to the code of ethics for both organisations.
